Meet the Hiboy S11 E-Skateboard
If you're in the market for an all-around reliable electric skateboard for a beginner, the Hiboy S11 is one of the most compelling options on the market.
The Hiboy S11 is cheap enough to make it onto my list of the best budget electric skateboards. Having said that, this electric skateboard is not at the rock bottom. For a little more money, you can expect a higher quality skateboard with better features that some of the cheapest ones out there.
According to the manufacturer, this electric skateboard is not meant to be a high-performance one (those tend to be quite expensive anyway). This is an electric skateboard decidedly aimed at beginners. While there's no specified minimum age, this skateboard is best for pre-teens and teenagers. For younger kids, please consult my guide to the best electric skateboards for kids.
What makes this electric skateboard suitable for beginners? First and foremost, it is very easy to control. Users report a very smooth ride and ease of using the handheld remote for accelerating and stopping. Also, the skateboard comes with 4 different speed modes, which is a godsend when you are just starting out. You can take it slow at first, but once you get the hang of it, you can cruise at speeds of up to 13 MPH. While this isn't crazy fast, it's more than enough for most young riders.
In terms of size, the Hiboy S11 is very similar to that of a regular skateboard. It is perhaps at the low end of what we consider a regular skateboard size, but it's definitely not a mini skateboard (those are usually 25 inches long or less). This one is 30 inches long and 8.3 inches wide. This is a very comfortable size.
Despite its size, this skateboard is still very light, at 8.3 pounds, making it easy to carry. For all of these reasons, the Hiboy S11 is one of the most popular and highly rated electric skateboards for beginners. In my opinion, it's worth the extra cost compared to some of the extremely low priced options out there. But if you're looking for a super fast, high performance electric skateboard to really take your riding to the next level, this one probably isn't going to be it.
Features of the Hiboy S11 E-Skateboard
Here are the detailed specs of the Hiboy S11, and I've included my comments on each of them to help you understand what impact they'll have on the rider.

If you're on the fence about the Hiboy S11, here are some other options that may appeal to you.
Hiboy S22: A faster longboard
From the same manufacturer, the Hiboy S22 is a longer and more powerful electric skateboard than the S11. At 35.4 inches long, this is longboard territory. It's got a better range and can handle heavier riders. I also think it has a cooler look overall. Older teens especially will be more into this skateboard, but you'll have to pay more for it.
WOOKRAYS: Cool mini board
The WOOKRAYS electric skateboard is smaller, cheaper, and in my opinion, cooler looking than the Hiboy S11, with its grafitti-style design that comes in two looks. It's similar to the Hiboy S11 in many other ways (same motor size, weight, charging time, and comes with 3 speed modes). Kids or teens looking for a stylish but very cheap mini electric skateboard will love this one. But for better performance and durability, stick with the Hiboy S11. Here's my full WOOKRAYS review.
Caroma electric skateboard
For comparison's sake, the Caroma electric skateboard is very similar to the Hiboy S11. It has a similar size, weight, capacity, maximum speed, and is also suitable for pre-teens and teens. It's got a handle in the deck for carrying. It's cheaper than the Hiboy S11 (at the time I write this–the price can always change), so you can consider this is if you're looking for a cheaper version of the Hiboy with similar specs. However, I think the Hiboy S11 is an all-around better quality board from a more known and trusted brand, and it's worth spending the extra bucks for it.
Other Things to Know
If you or the person you are buying an electric skateboard is a first-time rider, then it's important that you know about one thing. Electric skateboards are technically not legal to rider in some places. In most US states, they are in a gray area, but some states do allow them, with some very specific restrictions. Learn more about electric skateboard laws here.
Another super important topic is safety. Always wear protective equipment, including including a helmet, elbow pads, knee pads, and wrist guards. Here are the best wrist pads for skateborders.
The Hiboy S11 is probably the best electric skateboard on the market for a very specific niche: pre-teen and young teenage first-time riders. It offers and very smooth ride and is easy to control with the handheld remote. It's 4 speed modes are also very helpful for learning. It's a step up from super budget boards, but it won't be enough for more experienced riders looking for super fast speed and high performance.
If the Hiboy S11 sounds just right for you or your kid, then I hope you've found this review helpful. Have fun riding!
